Reign Basketball head coached James and Anthony Williams

Head Coaches James and Anthony Williams

The story of Reign Basketball is a true underdog story. Both James and Anthony Williams were underprivileged, low-socioeconomic kids growing up and learned the values of dedication, hard work, and being resilient.

“Growing up in a low socioeconomic household, sports were always a positive outlet for me,” said Williams. “There were a lot of coaches, parents, and adults that stepped up and supported me. Because of them, I was able to attend more practices, have shoes that actually fit, clothes that kept me warm, and food when I was hungry. All these things factored into allowing me to keep my mind on sports and not on outside distractions that a lot of my friends unfortunately fell to.”

Williams’ personal experiences with poverty shapes the mission for Reign Basketball. Reign Basketball offers a place for all athletes to learn the fundamentals and core values of working within a team environment. We believe every child, boy and girl should be privileged with the opportunity to compete at a high level regardless of their economic background and we will always stand by that.

“When we started, we looked at having affordable and flexible payment plans, as well as, providing scholarships or assistance for families who can’t afford the program. We know the importance and difference sports can make in a kid's life because we lived it first hand. At the end of the day we could have not have done all the years if it weren't for the support from local businesses and Individuals who have made it their priority to support our kids so they can participate and fit in like everyone else, it's been a blessing and we are forever grateful for our supporters ” said Williams. Reign Basketball looks forward to more promising years shaping and molding the next leaders of our community.

The program was founded by 2010 Enterprise High School Alumni James and Anthony Williams. Both James and Anthony are noted for their exploits as star athletes for the Hornets in basketball, track and field, and football. James still holds the CIF Northern Section record in the triple jump while Anthony ran track and field at Sacramento State.

Staying local and focusing on Shasta County athletes has been a core value to Reign Basketball’s success. “Reign Basketball was started because we wanted to bring all schools together and create unity in our community,” said James Williams. “We noticed a lot of programs in town for all sports were catered towards their middle school or high school and were only taking kids from their school to form their club team and we wanted to be the opposite by bringing all kids together.”

The Redding-based club teaches the fundamentals of shooting, importance of passing, becoming confident in dribbling, defense, and basic team concepts. The program also stresses the importance of accountability, responsibility and discipline. Reign Basketball tests the competitive spirit of its players in a challenging, high energy, team cultured environment.
